Frontyard progress

Hello all,

I should be folding and ironing clothes right now because I am way backed up on laundry.  I have been working on planting flower pots and pruning bushes instead of laundry.  That’s because the front patio is done and the new driveway is in.  We are on our way to a normal front yard folks!
For many years now we have been living with a solid crab grass lawn, and a driveway (while perfectly functional) which stops in front of the french doors in the livingroom. This year we finally did what we had been planning for years. We had a brick wall built that encloses a patio in front of our living room, and tore out the old driveway and put in a curved horseshoe type driveway. Wow do things go quickly when you get someone else to do it. 😉
I dug up some pictures that span 7 years of construction! This is kind of picture heavy so I’ll do the reveal in my next post.                                                                                                 We don’t have grass yet. Hopefully the topsoil and grass seed will go in next week.               In the meantime I’m filling my pots with flowers, putting up my window boxes (which I’ve imagined for years), and hoping for real grass this year!

The house when we bought it (see that perfect GREEN grass?)

Pictures after we began construction in 2005.  The driveway remained and we added on the left side of the house:

Then a year later we added a wee bit on the right and bumped out the top:

Where we planned to have a patio….

…. until a house fire in February 2011 set us back a year:

Here we are in January, all moved in and planning the final stages of the front yard:

Check out my next post to see the results of our planning 🙂
