Dirt piles

So I don’t know if this is a common fantasy, but I often secretly dream of having a perfectly manicured yard, green grass, pretty flowers and bushes, and a perennial garden that does not only look good in the spring.

Reality lifts its ugly head and I know that it’s not going to happen anytime soon and maybe never.  The people with the perfect yards have:

a) no kids

b) too much time on their hands

c) money to pay landscapers to do all their lawn care

d) do not live in a perpetual state of construction

e) all of the above

And when it comes down to it… we’re really not a perfect yard family.  Our dirt piles suit us.  I believe in lots of free (read unprogrammed, creative) play.  What kid isn’t happiest mucking around the yard, collecting worms, digging dirt, building forts, playing with the hose. I’ve learned to hold back the shudder when I see the dirty clothes and faces.  Afterall it’s pretty easy to clean up.  Look at how much fun they’re having!

So, there is definitely room for improvement here. And I’m hoping the front yard shapes up this year.  But I don’t see a perfectly manicured yard in my future.  Toss that dream on the scrap DIRT  pile. 😉

What dreams have you given up on?

You mean “toss that dream in the DIRT pile”! 🙂

I always non-apologetically tell the moms of my little muddied visitors, “If they don’t go home dirty, they didn’t have fun!”

Of course! Why didn’t I think of that!
    I’m changing it right now!
